Miljøhandboken: environmental sustainability guidance for events, including top energy saving tips for festivals and offices.

The Environmental Handbook, made available online in English by Øya Festival: practical advice on how to care for the environment during festivals and big outdoor events. Some of the topics are waste disposal, energy and HS&E work.

Greener Events Norway: sustainability consultancy specialising in live music and sporting events. They work directly with events including Øya Festival and Way Out West on integrating environmental sustainability and also run workshops and more. Greener Events are a Miljøfyrtårn-certified consultancy, meaning they can support organisations in achieving Miljøfyrtårn certification.

Energiemerking: Norwegian energy efficiency labelling scheme for commercial properties, residential properties, and products/equipment (based on EU regulations). Note all commercial buildings over 1,000 m2 must have a valid energy certificate. Buildings are rated from A (best) to G (worst) in terms of energy performance.

Natur Og Ungdom (Nature and Youth): Youth campaigning organisation on climate change and the environment. They also organise youth volunteers for festivals including Øya, Traena, and Hove to support waste recycling, engage audiences, and generally help keeping the festivals clean and green.



Enova: May offer funding support for energy efficiency measures in existing buildings, based on a minimum 10% reduction in energy use. There is a specific category for Cultural Buildings.

Awards and certifications:

Miljøfyrtårn (Eco-Lighthouse): certification scheme – there are General Critera, as well as industry-specific criteria, one of which is for Green Events covering both the organisation/administrative operations of an event as well as the event itself, valid for 3 years.

FEE Norway (Foundation for Environmental Education): FEE is a foundation that runs various environmental certification schemes in Norway. They run ‘Miljøgodkjent Arrangement’ , a certification scheme for all types of time-limited events covering a broad range of topics including energy and waste. The certification is valid for a single edition of an event.

Julie’s Bicycle Creative Industry Green: environmental certification scheme ranging from 1-3 stars specifically designed for the creative industries, available for festivals/outdoor events, venues, and offices.

A Greener Festival Awards: environmental sustainability award for outdoor events and festivals.

Linnéa has worked with production, sponsorship, and sustainability in connection with events for over 15 years, including the Oya Festival. Linnéa is certified as a Miljøfyrtårn consultant and she mentors organizers of sporting and culture events in implementing sustainability measures and sustainable corporate partnerships. She is also the author of a sponsorship handbook for live music organizers and heads the jury of the Norwegian Sponsorship and Event Awards. She gives talks, seminars and holds workshops on sustainability and events in Norway, but also internationally.


Greener Events is a practical oriented organization that works with sporting and cultural events in forming sustainability strategies and finding relevant corporate partnerships in order to enhance their potential. Greener Events wants to raise awareness and show that sustainable events are better events for people, planet and profit.
